Azithromycin Normon 500 mg

Composition:

Each film-coated tablet contains 500 mg of azithromycin.

Indications:

Azithromycin is indicated for:

• Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

• Acute bacterial sinusitis

• Community-acquired pneumonia caused byChlamydia pneumoniae,Haemophilus influenzae,Mycoplasma pneumoniae, orStreptococcus pneumoniae, in patients who are suitable for oral treatment
  It is also indicated for the treatment of:

• Pharyngitis and tonsillitis

• Uncomplicated infections of the skin and skin structures

• Urethritis and cervicitis (both gonococcal and non-gonococcal)

• Genital ulcer disease

Dosage and Administration:

• Community-acquired pneumonia (mild form), pharyngitis/tonsillitis (second line treatment), uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections:500 mg once on the first day, followed by 250 mg once daily on days 2–5.
  

• Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (mild to moderate):

  • 500 mg once daily for 3 days

  • OR 500 mg on day 1, followed by 250 mg daily on days 2–5

• Acute bacterial sinusitis:
  500 mg once daily for 3 days

• Genital ulcer disease (soft chancre):
  Single dose of 1 gram

• Non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis:
  Single dose of 1 gram

• Gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis:
  Single dose of 1 gram

Side Effects:

Azithromycin is generally well tolerated, with mild side effects.
Reported side effects include:

• Nausea

• Vomiting

• Abdominal discomfort (pain/spasms)

• Diarrhea

• Headache

• Dizziness

• Skin rash

Contraindications:

Azithromycin is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to this product or to macrolide antibiotics.

Precautions:

• Caution is advised in patients with liver dysfunction, as azithromycin is primarily excreted by the liver.

• There is no data on the use of azithromycin in patients with renal failure; caution is advised in such cases.

• Concurrent use of azithromycin with ergot derivatives is contraindicated.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

• Clinical studies support the use of azithromycin in pregnancy for initial treatment of chlamydial cervicitis.

• For other infections, azithromycin should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed.

• It is not known whether azithromycin is excreted in breast milk; therefore, caution is advised when administering to breastfeeding women.

Storage Conditions:

• Store in a cool, dry place at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.

• Keep away from light and moisture.

• Keep out of the reach of children.
